The Cross River State Government has issued an urgent Nigeria COVID-19 alert after placing ten residents under quarantine. This action follows their direct contact on April 21, 2026, with a Chinese national who tested positive for the virus.
State health officials identified these individuals through contact tracing in the Akamkpa area. Consequently, authorities have restricted their movement to prevent possible transmission to others.
This Nigeria COVID-19 alert serves as a vital reminder for the public to remain vigilant as the state government implements strict measures to stop the spread and ensure safety across the region.

Furthermore, the medical team continues to trace any other people who may have interacted with the infected individual.

Government Measures for the Nigeria COVID-19 Alert
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, emphasized that the state has implemented all necessary measures to curb the spread. He reassured residents that the current Nigeria COVID-19 alert is being managed with the highest level of professionalism.
“COVID-19 is not affecting Nigeria alone. However, we are determined to contain it. There is no need for panic,” he said. Meanwhile, the state government encourages everyone to maintain good hygiene and report any respiratory issues to health facilities immediately.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the pandemic has claimed more than seven million lives worldwide since it first emerged in 2019. The majority of deaths have been recorded in the United States, Brazil, and India. Therefore, the Cross River State health ministry is taking every precaution to avoid a local surge.
This Nigeria COVID-19 alert remains active until all quarantined individuals finish their observation period and test negative for the virus.
