English club Chelsea have signed English midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa on a contract that will run until 2033, in a deal worth £117 million.
Record-Breaking Transfer Fee
Although neither club officially disclosed the transfer fee, reports indicate that Rogers was signed for more than the £116 million that Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson in July 2026.
The 23-year-old England international joins Chelsea after enjoying an impressive spell at Aston Villa. Rogers is now more expensive than Ecuadorian midfielder Moisés Caicedo, whom Chelsea signed from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115 million in 2023.
Rogers Delighted to Join Chelsea
Rogers said he was delighted to join Chelsea, stating that it has always been the club he supported since childhood.
He said, “I’m very happy. For me, Chelsea is the biggest club in London, and it’s the club I have supported since I was a child.”
Chelsea Continue Youth-Focused Strategy
Chelsea continue with their plan of strengthening the squad with talented young players who can help the club in the years ahead.
The club believes Rogers will play an important role as it builds for the future with a young and competitive squad.
Strong Performances Earned the Move
The midfielder stood out during the previous season and also featured for England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His performances for both club and country attracted strong interest before Chelsea secured his signature.
Rogers Makes English Transfer History
Morgan Rogers has now made history as the most expensive English player ever, surpassing other top English players who previously held that record.
