Turatsinze Nzacahinyeretse, a resident of Masizi Village in Bumbogo Sector, Gasabo District, says she has improved her livelihood through soap making, a business that currently earns her Rwf70,000 per day.
Turatsinze is a married woman with five children. She started making soap in 2018, but at first she could only produce 15 bars a day because getting the materials she needed was difficult.
To overcome these challenges, she decided to collect used cooking oil from hotels to increase her soap production.
She did this for a long time, although some hotels charged her high prices for the used oil. However, she says Park Inn by Radisson Kigali chose to give her the oil for free as part of its efforts to support her and help her improve her livelihood.

Used Cooking Oil Helps Increase Soap Production
Turatsinze says that after partnering with Park Inn by Radisson Kigali, her production increased from 15 to 180 bars of soap per day.
“Park Inn gives me the oil I use to make soap completely free of charge. I do not pay anything. Currently, I make 180 bars of soap per day using the 200 litres they give me, and I can tell you that I save at least Rwf300,000 every month.”
Turatsinze explained that after receiving support from Park Inn by Radisson Kigali, many things in her life have changed. Among other achievements, she has been able to buy a house for herself and her family, while one of her children has returned to school. She also says that her overall living conditions have improved.
She added that her goal over the next five years is to buy a machine to assist her in soap production and increase her output even further.

Hotel Support Boosts Woman’s Livelihood
Muhongerwa Witness, the Communications and Marketing Manager at Park Inn by Radisson Kigali, said Turatsinze approached the hotel and told them that she wanted to collect the cooking oil they had already used. The hotel decided to support her by making the oil available to her without difficulty.
She said they chose to support Turatsinze because they wanted to help her improve her livelihood, especially since she was a woman who showed determination to work and develop herself.
Muhongerwa said that after supporting Turatsinze, they also intend to continue helping other people improve their livelihoods.
