Armenia’s Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Edvard Asryan, received Rwanda’s Ambassador to Armenia, Maj. Gen. Joseph Nzabamwita, for talks focused on strengthening military relations between the two countries.
The discussions took place after Ambassador Maj. Gen. Joseph Nzabamwita presented his credentials to Armenia’s President, Vahagn Khachaturyan, on August 11, 2026, formally accrediting him as Rwanda’s representative to the country.
The meeting was also attended by Colonel Anthony B. Mpagaze, the Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Rwanda in Armenia.

Rwanda and Armenia Discuss Military Cooperation
Lt. Gen. Edvard Asryan first congratulated Ambassador Maj. Gen. Nzabamwita on his appointment as Rwanda’s representative in Armenia and wished him success in his new assignment.
The two officials held discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
Rwanda and Armenia Share Similar Histories
Rwanda and Armenia share several similarities. Both are relatively small countries with limited natural resources and have experienced tragic histories involving genocide.
Armenia also has opportunities to learn from Rwanda in the area of good governance, where Rwanda is regarded as a model by a number of countries.
Armenia’s Location and Economy
Armenia is a small country covering approximately 26,743 square kilometres. It is located in the mountainous Caucasus region, which lies between Europe and Asia.
The country has a population of approximately 3.1 million people and is generally considered part of Europe, although much of its territory is geographically located in Asia. It borders Türkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Armenia is known for its long history, dating back to before the birth of Jesus Christ. It is classified as a middle-income country, with a gross domestic product of approximately $31.8 billion.
