After spending some time preparing for it, although things did not go exactly as she had hoped, Bazongere Rosine has organized a two-day walking journey from Kigali to Musanze, which she has linked to the Kwita Izina event.
Bazongere plans to undertake the journey from September 2 to September 3, 2026, with the journey ending in Musanze. Those who manage to complete the journey will join her on September 4, 2026, as they head to Kinigi, where the ceremony for naming baby gorillas will take place.
Speaking to the media, Bazongere said that the journey would take two days on foot.
“We will spend two days on the journey. On September 2, 2026, we will spend the night at Nyirangarama, and then on September 3, 2026, we will spend the night in Musanze.”
Journey to End in Musanze Before Kwita Izina
After arriving in Musanze on the morning of September 4, 2026, they will proceed to Kinigi, where the Kwita Izina ceremony will be held.
Bazongere, who organized the journey under the name ‘Imbaraga Gorilla Walk,’ is passionate about sports and regularly organizes various walking journeys as part of campaigns for different causes. This time, she will set off with a message encouraging people to protect the environment as a way of building a better future.

Imbaraga Gorilla Walk to Promote Conservation
She said: “The goal is not simply to walk, but to use the journey as a way of promoting healthy living, developing tourism in Rwanda, and encouraging people to take part in protecting our natural heritage.”
Bazongere said that ‘Imbaraga Gorilla Walk 2026’ is a walking journey aimed at bringing together sports and well-being, tourism, environmental conservation, and efforts to protect gorillas and wildlife.
