The director and owner of the health facility Inshuti Nyabikoni in Kigali has been arrested, suspected of involvement in the death of a 26-year-old woman who had gone there to request family planning services. She was reportedly given anesthesia before the removal of a contraceptive implant, which is believed to have caused her death.
The incident happened earlier this week when the young woman, who was not sick, went to the health post to have her contraceptive implant removed. Family members said she considered it a routine service that would not take long, but she died during the procedure.
