Ghanaian national team midfielder Thomas Partey will not travel from Boston in the United States to Canada for the upcoming World Cup match against Panama. Authorities blockaded his travel because he is currently facing active investigations over multiple rape allegations.
The critical match takes place on Wednesday, June 17, and it marks the first group game for Ghana in the global tournament. Both national teams compete in Group L, which serves as the final group of the competition.
The Black Stars, representing Africa in the tournament, previously held their training camp in the United States. The technical bench planned to move the entire squad to the city of Atlanta as the opening match approached. However, the Canadian government did not include Thomas Partey among the players authorized to enter the country.
Canadian immigration officials denied his visa because his records show active legal proceedings. The government maintains a strict policy stating that no individual with such a record can enter the country.
