Rwandan long-distance runner Florence Niyonkuru has made history after winning a bronze medal in the women’s 10,000m race at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland, becoming the first Rwandan athlete to win a medal at the Games.
Niyonkuru secured third place in the race held on July 27, 2026, finishing with a time of 31 minutes and 55.47 seconds.

She previously finished second at the African Championships held in Ghana and also performed strongly at the 2025 Kigali Half Marathon.

Rose Davies Claims Gold in Women’s 10,000m
Australian runner Rose Davies won the gold medal after completing the 10,000m race in 31 minutes and 39.32 seconds.
Kenya’s Diana claimed the silver medal with a time of 31 minutes and 50.13 seconds, while Niyonkuru completed the podium in third place.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games began on July 23 and are scheduled to conclude on August 2, 2026.
