Rayon Sports began their 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Zanzibar’s KVZ FC in a Group C match played on Sunday at Amahoro Stadium in Remera.
The first half ended goalless, although Rayon Sports created the better chances. The Rwandan side registered eight shots, including two on target, while KVZ FC managed only two attempts, with one on target.

Junior Kameni Opens the Scoring
Rayon Sports returned from the break with greater determination and made tactical changes to strengthen the team.
One of the substitutes, Iradukunda Elie Tatou, made an immediate impact. In the 60th minute, he was brought down inside the penalty area by KVZ FC defender Munir Abdu Shafi, and the referee pointed to the spot.
Junior Kameni, who had replaced Nizeyimana Mubarak in the 57th minute, stepped up to take the penalty.
The Cameroonian striker calmly sent goalkeeper Hamad Ubwa the wrong way to give Rayon Sports a deserved 1-0 lead.

Muhoza Daniel Seals the Victory
After taking the lead, Rayon Sports continued to dominate possession and create chances.
In the 67th minute, head coach replaced Ibrahim Djingarey with Muhoza Daniel, and the substitution proved decisive.
The young midfielder, who joined Rayon Sports after playing for second-division side Etoile de L’Est during the 2025/2026 season, doubled the lead in the 79th minute.
Muhoza finished confidently after receiving a well-timed pass from captain Nshimiyimana Emmanuel Kabange, scoring Rayon Sports’ second goal of the tournament

Rayon Sports Control the Match
Rayon Sports remained in control throughout the closing stages, delighting their supporters with a composed performance.
By the final whistle, Rayon Sports had recorded 14 shots, including five on target, and enjoyed 59% possession. KVZ FC finished with 41% possession and four shots, two of them on target.
The victory earned Rayon Sports three valuable points to begin their Kagame Cup campaign on a positive note.
Al-Hilal Also Start With Victory
In the other Group C fixture, Sudanese giants Al-Hilal SC defeated Kenya’s Tusker FC 2-0.
Mamudu Kamaradini opened the scoring in the 30th minute before Adams added a second goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
The results mean that both Rayon Sports and Al-Hilal began the tournament with victories.
Rayon Sports Face Tusker FC Next
Rayon Sports will return to action on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, when they take on Tusker FC at Kigali Pele Stadium at 12:00 p.m.
Later the same day, Al-Hilal SC will face KVZ FC at 3:00 p.m. as the Group C teams continue their battle for a place in the knockout stage of the competition.
