President Paul Kagame presented awards of recognition to three exceptional students during a major military ceremony in Musanze District. These three individuals excelled among 108 senior officers representing 20 African nations. The student successfully completed a rigorous 46 weeks of high-level training at the RDF Command and Staff College graduation in Nyakinama.
During his address, President Kagame told the graduates that the deep trust Rwandans and international partners place in the Rwanda Defence Force was not accidental. He explained that the military built this strong reputation over many years through continuous sacrifice, strict discipline, and high professionalism. The Head of State strongly urged the new graduates to uphold these core institutional values throughout their military careers.

A Diverse Cohort of African Senior Military Leaders
The international training program attracted senior military officers from across the African continent and its partners. The trainees traveled from Rwanda, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, and Mali. Additional participants arrived from Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Jordan.
The outstanding awardees at the event included a Ghanaian officer, a Kenyan officer, and Lieutenant Colonel Walter Kageruka of the Rwanda Defence Force. Lieutenant Colonel Kageruka achieved the highest honor by ranking first overall among all the international participants in the course. President Kagame emphasized the immense importance of setting and maintaining clear organizational goals. He noted that this guiding principle has consistently helped the Rwanda Defence Force earn widespread public trust.

Strategic Collaboration and Regional Crisis Management
The President warmly congratulated the senior officers for gaining advanced strategic knowledge and taking on greater leadership responsibilities. He also expressed sincere thanks to their families for providing vital support during the demanding training period.
Furthermore, he praised the leadership of the Rwanda Defence Force for equipping the academic institution with modern learning facilities. He stressed that joint international training effectively fosters crucial cooperation during regional dialogues and complex crisis situations.
President Kagame highlighted that the curriculum specifically sharpens the ability of participants to tackle modern, complex challenges. He urged the leaders to make very careful decisions as their operational responsibilities grow significantly. He reminded the audience that the primary mission of Rwanda remains the protection of its citizens and national sovereignty while actively driving comprehensive national development.
He concluded that the reputation of the Rwanda Defence Force grew out of years of dedicated service, and this exact same responsibility now extends directly to the new graduates.

Speeches from Institutional Leaders and Government Dignitaries
The event also featured inspiring remarks from academic and military leadership. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Rwanda, Professor Didas Kayihura Muganga, spoke to the gathering. He strongly urged the senior officers to use their newly acquired training to actively promote peace, security, and good governance within their respective home countries.
Brigadier General Andrew Nyamvumba, the Commandant of the RDF Command and Staff College, added his perspective. He stated that the intensive training will help the officers fulfill their professional duties effectively and inspire positive institutional change across the region. A large group of high-ranking government officials attended the colorful graduation ceremony.
The list of dignitaries included Minister Paula Ingabire, Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe, and Minister Dominique Habimana. Numerous families and close friends of the graduating senior officers also gathered at the campus to celebrate the milestone.
