OpenAI has introduced new updates to its Codex technology, expanding its use in office work and large organisations. Codex is now used by more than five million people weekly, a sixfold increase since February this year.
While developers remain the majority of users, about 20% are non‑technical employees, a share that continues to rise.
New Features for Office Workers
To support non‑technical users, OpenAI added six new features designed for tasks such as data analysis, innovation, business, graphic design, investment, and banking. These tools allow Codex to handle specialised office tasks more effectively, broadening its impact beyond software development.

Sites and Annotations
Among the standout updates is Sites, a feature that lets Codex publish outputs directly as websites instead of plain documents, developed in collaboration with Wix and Figma.
Another addition, Annotations, enables users to give precise instructions on specific sections of text, improving customisation and accuracy.

Enterprise Integration Initiative
These upgrades come just three weeks after OpenAI launched a $4 billion enterprise initiative, aimed at integrating Codex into global organisations. The goal is to help enterprises harness AI for everyday operations, making workflows more efficient and accessible across industries.
