The Embassy of China in Rwanda announced that more than 30,000 Rwandans are now fluent in Chinese, a skill increasingly valuable in business, education, and cultural exchange.
The announcement was made on June 1, 2026, during the “Chinese Show,” an event designed to train primary school students through competitions and traditional performances.

According to Zhang Xiaohong, First Secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Kigali, the rising number of Rwandans speaking Chinese reflects the strong ties between the two countries. He explained that speaking or teaching Chinese helps both nations implement joint projects and build mutual understanding.
