Japan Airlines is preparing to deploy humanoid robots for ground operations at Haneda Airport. The robots are expected to begin work in May 2026 as part of a two-year pilot program designed to reduce the workload of airport staff handling physically demanding tasks.

Robots to Handle Luggage and Cleaning Duties
The humanoid robots, manufactured in China, will first be assigned to loading and unloading luggage. Later, they are also expected to support aircraft cleaning and other airport ground services.
Response to Japan’s Labor Shortage
This initiative comes as Japan continues to experience labor shortages in the transport sector. At the same time, the country is welcoming increasing numbers of international visitors while its working-age population continues to decline.
Japan Airlines currently employs around 4,000 ground operation staff, and the use of robotics could help improve efficiency and reduce physical strain on workers.
