Senator Donatille Mukabalisa passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, after an illness while receiving treatment at King Faisal Hospital. She died on the same day she would have celebrated her 66th birthday.

Distinguished Career in Public Service and Politics
Born in 1960 in Nyamata, Bugesera District, Mukabalisa completed her primary and secondary education before the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. After the Genocide, she studied Law at the Independent University of Kigali (ULK), where she later became a lecturer. She also taught law at the Independent Institute of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK).
Before joining active politics, she spent 16 years working with international organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Leadership in Parliament and the Liberal Party
Mukabalisa was one of Rwanda’s most prominent political figures. She served as Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies from 2013 to 2024, overseeing legislative reforms and parliamentary affairs during her tenure.
Within the Liberal Party (PL), she held several senior leadership positions, including Secretary General and later President of the party, playing a significant role in Rwanda’s political landscape.
