Kenyan lawyer and governance expert PLO Lumumba praised Rwanda for its remarkable development after the Genocide against the Tutsi. He said the country rebuilt itself into a nation driven by vision, unity, and hope. Rwanda, he noted, now stands as an example of resilience for Africa and the world.

Symposium Reflects on Rwanda’s History
Lumumba made the remarks on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, during a symposium on the history of the genocide. The Rwandan Embassy in Kenya organized the event together with the PLO Lumumba Foundation, Pan African Institute, Lukenya University, and the University of Nairobi.
The symposium brought together scholars, leaders, and students. They discussed Rwanda’s past and explored lessons other African countries can learn. In addition, they reflected on how nations can rebuild after conflict.
“From Ashes to Ambition” Inspires Africa
The symposium was held under the theme: “From Ashes to Ambition: Rwanda’s Journey of Renewal and the Quest for a United Africa.”
It aimed to join Rwanda and the global community in commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi. It also highlighted Rwanda’s recovery journey. Furthermore, it encouraged dialogue on unity, peace, and long-term development across Africa.
Participants said Rwanda’s experience shows that determined leadership and national unity can create lasting change.
Kagame’s Leadership and Kigali’s Growth Recognized
Lumumba said Rwanda is among the countries that have set an extraordinary example in rebuilding after devastation. He praised the country’s progress in many sectors and credited the visionary leadership of Paul Kagame.
According to Lumumba, leadership based on vision and development helped Rwanda achieve major goals in a short time. He added that Kigali clearly reflects this success. The city is known for its cleanliness, modern infrastructure, and growing technological advancement.
