On June 29, 2026, the Ministry of Internal Security bid farewell to 25 employees of the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) who have entered retirement.
The group, placed into retirement by President Paul Kagame on May 22, 2026, includes one commissioner, ACP (Rtd) Moses Ntawiheba, two senior officers, and twenty-two junior officers.
Minister Biruta Commends Retirees for Their Dedicated Service
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Internal Security Dr. Vincent Biruta praised the retirees for their invaluable contribution to the institution and the nation. He urged them to continue being exemplary citizens in their new chapter of life and to actively participate in national development initiatives.
Dr. Biruta said: “I ask you to work well with those you will meet in ordinary life, to be role models in development activities and government programs. You are expected to remain exemplary citizens, guided by the values you acquired while serving this institution,”
Retirees Express Gratitude for Years of Cooperation
ACP (Rtd) Moses Ntawiheba expressed gratitude for the spirit of cooperation and respect that characterized their service, noting that achievements were possible thanks to teamwork.
He remarked: “We appreciate the leadership and all colleagues for the cooperation, respect, and constructive support you gave us. Everything we achieved was not by ourselves but through collective effort,”
He emphasized that although they are retiring, they remain connected to RCS and will continue to contribute their experience whenever needed.
Call for Serving Officers to Uphold RCS Values
During his remarks, ACP (Rtd) Ntawiheba also encouraged officers who remain in active service to uphold the principles of integrity, professionalism, dedication, and responsible leadership that define the Rwanda Correctional Service.
He urged them to continue working with commitment while safeguarding the institution’s reputation and maintaining high ethical standards in the execution of their duties.
RCS Commissioner General Applauds Commitment and Integrity
Commissioner General of RCS, CG Murenzi Evariste, commended the retirees for their unwavering commitment, honesty, and professionalism throughout their careers.
He noted that whether they served in administrative positions or operational assignments, they consistently demonstrated diligence, resilience, and dedication to fulfilling the mission of the Rwanda Correctional Service.
Retirement Marks a New Chapter of National Service
The ceremony concluded with recognition of the retirees’ lasting contributions to Rwanda’s correctional system and national security.
Officials emphasized that retirement marks not the end of service but the beginning of a new chapter, encouraging the retirees to remain active in their communities, support national development initiatives, and continue sharing their experience and leadership for the benefit of future generations.
