The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) President Shema Fabrice over allegations related to the issuance of a bounced cheque.
RIB spokesperson Dr. Murangira B. Thierry confirmed that Shema was arrested on August 11, 2026. He is currently detained at the RIB station in Kicukiro as investigations continue before his case is submitted to the prosecution.
Shema Took Office in 2025
Shema Fabrice became FERWAFA President on August 30, 2025, after being elected during an ordinary General Assembly alongside members of the executive committee he leads. The team adopted the name “Dream Team.”
Vision for Rwanda Football
After taking office, the former AS Kigali president announced plans to transform Rwandan football, with a particular focus on women’s football, youth development, infrastructure and other key areas of the sport.
Commitment to Youth Development
Although he serves as FERWAFA President, Shema does not receive a salary for the position. Instead, he committed to investing the $200,000 he would have earned over his four-year term into developing young football talent.
Record at AS Kigali
Before joining FERWAFA, Shema served as President of AS Kigali for six years. During his tenure, the club won several major trophies, including the Peace Cup in 2019 and 2022, as well as the 2022 Super Cup.
