Rwanda is set to host the fourth edition of the CECAFA Wazee Tournament, a regional competition that reunites former football stars from East and Central Africa.
The two day tournament will take place on 5–6 June 2026 at Kigali Pele Stadium. Veteran footballers aged 35 and above will return to the pitch to relive their glory days. In addition, the tournament will strengthen regional unity and preserve the history of football in the region.

Five Countries Confirm Participation
Teams from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Democratic Republic of the Congo will compete in this year’s edition. Most countries will field one team. However, Tanzania’s decision to register two teams is expected to increase competition and excitement during the tournament.
Tournament Promotes Unity and Football Heritage
The CECAFA Wazee Tournament has grown beyond a normal football competition. The event honors retired footballers who contributed greatly to the growth of the sport across the region.
Moreover, the tournament promotes friendship, cooperation, and cultural exchange among CECAFA member states. Fans will also get a rare opportunity to watch some of the region’s football legends back in action.

Rwanda Targets Strong Home Campaign
Cercle Sportif de Kigali will represent Rwanda during the tournament. The team hopes to improve on last year’s performance after losing 2-1 to Kenya’s Railway Wanderers in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, the defending champions are C-Club. The Ugandan side won the 2025 title in Arusha after defeating Railway Wanderers 4-3 on penalties in a dramatic final.

Fans Invited to Celebrate Regional Football Icons
Football lovers across Rwanda and the wider region are expected to attend the tournament in large numbers. The event will celebrate the legendary players who helped shape East and Central African football history.
