A total of 237 young people supported by the Imbuto Foundation have begun the third cohort of the Imbuto Zitoshye civic education programme, aimed at instilling Rwandan values, patriotism and a commitment to contributing to Rwanda’s development.
The programme began on August 16, 2026, at the Nkumba Civic Education Centre in Burera District and will run until August 25, 2026.
The cohort comprises 89 boys and 148 girls, all students supported by the Imbuto Foundation through the Edified Generation Scholarship Programme. They completed secondary school during the 2025/26 academic year.

Young People Urged to Uphold Positive Values
Imbuto Foundation’s Director of Operations, Muhire Alexis, reminded the young people that pursuing education and performing well academically are important but not sufficient on their own.
“Being a young Rwandan man or woman requires having goals, working hard, showing respect, avoiding drugs and staying away from other harmful behaviours. There is a serious issue we cannot stop talking about: alcoholism, drug abuse, irresponsible behaviour and other practices that can damage young people’s lives and future,” he said.
The Governor of Northern Province, Maurice Mugabowagahunde, said that traditionally, Itorero served as a school for Rwandan culture and values, where Rwandans gathered to learn about values, good conduct, patriotism and service to others.
He said the same qualities are expected of the young people participating in the programme.
he said: “That is also the purpose of this programme: to prepare young Rwandans who possess constructive values, knowledge and the willingness to serve their country and contribute to its development.”

Programme Focuses on Patriotism and Service
Imbuto Zitoshye was launched in 2024 by the Imbuto Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement (MINUBUMWE). Since its establishment, the programme has trained 384 young people.
The programme brings together students supported by the Imbuto Foundation in their education and personal development. Its goal is to instil Rwandan values, good conduct, patriotism and a spirit of service, while preparing young people to become leaders and active citizens who contribute meaningfully to Rwanda’s development.
