Russia has announced that it thwarted a major drone attack targeting Moscow, with its air defense systems shooting down numerous unmanned aircraft launched by Ukraine before they reached their intended targets.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said on Sunday that Russian air defenses intercepted many drones headed toward the capital, including about 45 that were destroyed near the city and crashed on its outskirts.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also reported that approximately 350 drones were shot down across different regions of the country on the same day, claiming all were neutralized before causing significant damage.
War Enters a New Phase
The latest developments come as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues to intensify, with both sides increasingly relying on drones, missiles, and other advanced weapons to carry out attacks.
In late June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a 40-day campaign aimed at increasing pressure on Russia through strikes and disruptions of economic activities linked to the war. Since then, Moscow has reported repeated attacks on energy infrastructure, maritime operations, and other critical facilities.

Conflicting Claims Over Targets
Russia accuses Ukraine of attacking civilian areas, while Ukraine maintains that its operations are directed only at facilities supporting Russia’s military efforts.
In response, Russia says it has continued carrying out drone and missile strikes against military installations and defense industries in Ukraine, insisting that its operations do not target civilians.
