United States officials announced that US forces carried out an attack on Iranian weapons located on Larak Island in strikes conducted on Sunday. This was the first known attack by the United States on Iran since early July.
Weapons Were Preparing to Fire Into the Strait of Hormuz
US officials said the weapons were preparing to fire heavy missiles into the Strait of Hormuz.
One of the officials said, “I am certain that today US forces attacked two large Iranian weapons that were preparing to fire into the Strait of Hormuz.”

Iran Vows Retaliation
According to reports, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said that the attack killed and injured many soldiers and civilians, and that they would retaliate “in a strong manner” against the US action.

Iran Responds to the US Attack
Iranian media reported that the Iranian government said the attack was intended as retaliation, and that the United States fired at the location where Iranian weapons were stationed on Larak Island.
US President Donald Trump said the action took place after the air defenses had been largely destroyed.
