RSSB Tigers has won the Basketball Africa League (BAL) championship, becoming the first‑ever Rwandan team to claim the title after defeating Angola’s Petro de Luanda in a match attended by President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame.
The RSSB Tigers, who were also the first Rwandan team to ever reach the BAL finals, secured the trophy by defeating Petro de Luanda 90 to 88. The thrilling match took place on Sunday, May 31, at a packed BK Arena filled to capacity with basketball fans.
A Star‑Studded and Packed Arena
The final was attended by President Paul Kagame, who has been present for multiple games throughout the tournament. The stands were overflowing with basketball enthusiasts, creating an electrifying atmosphere. The home team enjoyed massive support from fans who had followed them throughout the competition.

Petro de Luanda started strong, dominating the first quarter. However, the momentum shifted in the second and third quarters as the RSSB Tigers returned re‑energized. The game concluded with the Tigers leading 90 to 88, securing their historic victory.
