Rwandan soldiers serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have emerged victorious in sports competitions marking the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.

Football Triumph

On May 30, 2026, at the UN military base in Tomping, Juba, the Rwandan contingent (Rwanbatt‑3) clinched the football championship trophy after defeating the civilian UN staff team “Giant Killers” in a penalty shootout. The match ended goalless in regular time, with Rwanda winning 9–8 on penalties.
Volleyball Performance
In volleyball, Rwanbatt‑3 finished in second place, losing 3–0 in the final against the Nepalese military team.
Building Unity Through Sports
The tournament brought together soldiers, police officers, UN staff, and local residents, fostering cooperation and camaraderie among participants. Organizers highlighted that the games strengthened unity and promoted friendship across the diverse peacekeeping community.
