This partnership represents a major step in Villa’s financial future. Rwanda has already gained recognition through sponsorships with Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich.

The partnership follows the expiration of Visit Rwanda’s eight-year contract with Arsenal. That deal, worth £10 million per year, began in 2018 and ended recently.
Visit Rwanda is now shifting its marketing budget toward the Americas and Latin America. Instead of renewing the costly Arsenal package, the brand chose a more competitive but cost-effective Premier League option.
Villa’s Rapid Rise Makes It Attractive
Backed by Unai Emery’s leadership, Villa’s rise into Europe’s elite tier made the club an ideal partner. Visit Rwanda will replace Villa’s sleeve sponsor, Trade Nation, an online trading platform.
Trade Nation joined Villa in June 2023 and extended its deal through the season. That agreement was worth about £2 million per year.
Financial Boost for Villa
Replacing Trade Nation with Visit Rwanda gives Villa a stronger financial package. The deal aligns with Villa’s strategy to grow revenues and challenge the Premier League’s “Big Six.”
This calculated gamble narrows the financial gap with elite clubs. However, it also invites humanitarian criticism, similar to the backlash Arsenal faced during its partnership with Visit Rwanda.
Ethical Debate and Commercial Victory
Fans will likely scrutinise the ethical implications of partnering with a government department often criticised internationally. Despite the controversy, the deal guarantees a surge in commercial revenue, crucial for Villa’s long-term ambitions.
