Strengthening regional security and African collaboration
The two presidents also addressed critical regional security issues during their discussions. They emphasized the importance of African countries collaborating to find lasting solutions for peace.
Both leaders believe that working together is the only way to promote sustainable development across the continent. President Gnassingbé previously visited Rwanda in January 2026 to discuss similar concerns. During that visit, he and President Kagame held deep talks regarding the ongoing insecurity in eastern DRC.
By maintaining this regular dialogue, both leaders aim to stabilize the region and protect the lives of their citizens. Their shared vision for a peaceful Africa remains a central part of their diplomatic relationship.

Expanding trade and aviation agreements between Rwanda and Togo
Rwanda and Togo share a long history of successful partnership in various sectors. For instance, both countries have an existing cooperation agreement that simplifies air travel. Signed in May 2018, this deal grants Rwanda full access to airports in Lomé, the capital of Togo. Such agreements help increase trade and allow for the faster movement of people and goods between West and East Africa.
During this latest visit, the leaders explored further opportunities to expand these economic links. As Rwanda continues to grow as a regional hub, partnerships with nations like Togo are essential. These efforts ensure that both countries can benefit from shared resources and expertise in the coming years.
