President Paul Kagame recently held talks with the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Álvaro Lario. The meeting focused on the strong cooperation between the two sides to advance agricultural development.
Both leaders looked for new ways to work together on future projects. They met on May 12, 2026, while attending the France-Africa Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. According to the Office of the President, Village Urugwiro, the leaders discussed how their partnership helps rural communities grow.

Strengthening rural development and smallholder farmers

These discussions also explored more ways to deepen cooperation. They focused on promoting economic growth that includes everyone and improving how farmers reach markets.
Another key goal is to help the private sector participate more in the agricultural industry. By working together, the government and IFAD hope to build a more modern and profitable farming system for all citizens.

The global and local impact of IFAD initiatives
