The initiative saw vulnerable households receive cows, goats, and 10 irrigation motor pumps, reflecting the Government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of liberation are translated into better living standards for citizens. The support was provided during Liberation Day celebrations held on July 4, 2026, underlining the message that Rwanda’s liberation continues to create opportunities for inclusive socio-economic transformation.
Livestock and Irrigation Pumps to Improve Livelihoods
The support package included cows, goats, and 10 irrigation motor pumps, which are expected to transform agricultural activities in Nasho Sector by enabling farmers to irrigate their crops throughout the year.
The irrigation equipment will help farmers reduce dependence on seasonal rainfall, increase crop yields, and improve resilience against the effects of climate change.
Livestock beneficiaries also welcomed the initiative, noting that cows and goats will contribute to improved household nutrition, provide organic manure for farming, and generate additional income through milk production and livestock breeding.
Several beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Government, saying the support would help them become more self-reliant and improve the welfare of their families.
They said: “This support gives us hope for a better future. With irrigation equipment and livestock, we will be able to increase production, improve our incomes, and provide a better life for our families,”
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Modern Agriculture
The ceremony was attended by the State Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. Telesphore Ndabamenye, the Mayor of Kirehe District, local leaders, and other government officials.
Addressing residents, Dr. Ndabamenye emphasized that modern agriculture and livestock farming remain among the Government’s top priorities for improving rural livelihoods and ensuring food security.
He said: “We encourage farmers to embrace modern farming practices, make effective use of irrigation technologies, and work together through cooperatives to increase productivity.”
The minister also noted that investments in agriculture are essential to achieving sustainable economic growth while creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
Liberation Means Building the Nation Through Hard Work
Speaking during the celebrations, the Mayor of Kirehe District reminded residents that Kwibohora is not only a day to commemorate Rwanda’s liberation but also an opportunity to renew the commitment to national development.
He urged residents to continue safeguarding peace and unity while actively participating in government development programs.
The mayor emphasized that the progress Rwanda has achieved over the past 32 years has been made possible through good governance, security, and the determination of citizens to work hard for a better future.
He further encouraged beneficiaries to properly maintain the livestock and irrigation equipment so that they can generate lasting benefits for their families and the wider community.
Residents Encouraged to Protect Public Investments
Leaders called on residents to protect public infrastructure and use the resources they received responsibly.
They stressed that irrigation systems and livestock represent long-term investments that require proper management to maximize their economic value.
Residents were also encouraged to strengthen cooperation, support one another through community initiatives, and continue promoting unity and reconciliation as foundations for sustainable development.
Officials noted that development can only be sustained when citizens actively participate in preserving public assets and making productive use of government support programs.

Leaders concluded that Rwanda’s liberation journey is not only remembered through history but also through continued investments that improve people’s lives, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for future generations.
