Air Badminton: Rwanda Wins Bronze Medal in First African Championship Appearance

Rwanda secured a bronze medal at the 2026 Africa AirBadminton Championship in Uganda after finishing third among the nine participating countries.

The result marked Rwanda’s first appearance at the African AirBadminton Championship and provided a strong start for the country in the growing discipline.

Rwanda Makes Historic Debut

Despite competing in the championship for the first time, the Rwandan team showed competitiveness, teamwork and determination throughout the tournament, earning a place among the top three teams.

The team was coached by Girumwete Aimé, who guided the players during their preparation and matches against teams from across Africa.

Six Players Represent Rwanda

The Rwandan team was represented by six players: Gashema Shimo Benie Christa, Urusaro Vanessa, Musingize Marie Michelle, Tuyizere Hervé, Niyomukiza Yves and Hakizimana Jean Pierre.

Their performance earned Rwanda a bronze medal and marked an important achievement for the Rwanda Badminton Sport Federation (RBSF).

Bronze Medal Opens New Opportunity

The federation described the result as an important step in the development of AirBadminton in Rwanda, noting that the achievement demonstrates the potential of Rwandan players to compete at the continental level.

RBSF commended the players and coach for their dedication, determination and performance in Uganda.

The federation also said it would continue supporting the development of AirBadminton in Rwanda by encouraging more players to take up the sport and creating opportunities for them to compete at African and international levels.

Federation Celebrates First Medal

RBSF celebrated the team’s achievement, describing the result as an encouraging beginning for AirBadminton in Rwanda.

The federation said: “We celebrate Team Rwanda for this historic achievement! A first-time appearance, a first medal a great start for AirBadminton in Rwanda,”

The bronze medal gives Rwanda an early achievement to build on as the sport continues to develop in the country.
