Solar energy, rainwater harvesting systems and rooms inspired by Rwanda’s natural attractions are among the distinctive features of Ndare Eco Ville, an accommodation facility located in Nyarugunga Sector, Kicukiro District. The establishment combines hospitality services with environmental conservation. Ndare Eco Ville was founded by 29-year-old Mireille Usanase, who sought to offer visitors to Kigali an alternative place to relax and explore while contributing to the growth of Rwanda’s tourism sector.
Speaking to IGIHE, Usanase explained that the name Ndare Eco Ville reflects her vision of establishing an environmentally friendly accommodation facility within an urban setting. She chose Nyarugunga because of its accessibility and proximity to Kigali International Airport and Nyandungu Eco-Park.
She said: “I chose to establish the facility here because it is close to the airport. It is five minutes from the airport and five minutes from Nyandungu Eco-Park. Both are popular tourist attractions, which is why we decided to establish our business here,” As part of its environmental conservation efforts, Ndare Eco Ville uses solar energy and rainwater harvesting systems. These initiatives are complemented by environmentally friendly materials and green spaces where guests can relax.
Rooms Inspired by Rwanda’s Natural Attractions
One of the distinctive features of Ndare Eco Ville is its collection of rooms, each designed around a different part of Rwanda and its natural attractions. The room named Gasabo showcases the beauty of Kigali City, while Burera highlights the scenic landscapes surrounding Lakes Burera and Ruhondo. Another room, Akagera, draws inspiration from the attractions found in Akagera National Park. Each room also contains a small guidebook introducing guests to destinations they can explore across Rwanda. The initiative helps visitors discover tourism attractions, even when they have not yet decided where to travel during their stay.
Usanase said: “Each room has a small booklet highlighting places that visitors to Rwanda can explore, either in Kigali City or in different provinces, making it easy for them to access such information,” Beyond accommodation, the facility operates a restaurant serving a variety of meals, allowing guests to enjoy dining services alongside their stay.

Ndare Expands Operations Beyond Kigali
Ndare’s operations have extended beyond Kigali to Rwanda’s Eastern Province, where the business has established another hospitality facility known as Ndare Wellness Retreat, located along the shores of Lake Muhazi.
Usanase said promotional activities have helped strengthen the Ndare brand, create business opportunities and reach a wider market.
“Following our promotional activities, we realised that we could reach a much wider market. Our current plan is to expand our operations by increasing the number of rooms and establishing additional facilities in different parts of the country, so that anyone who loves Ndare can find it wherever they travel,” she said.
Ndare Eco Ville currently employs 15 people, all of whom are under the age of 30, reflecting the young workforce behind the business.
