Algerian-born Belgian coach Adel Amrouche, who previously managed Rwanda’s national football team (Amavubi 🇷🇼), has won a case against the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) over what he claimed was his unlawful dismissal. FERWAFA has been ordered to pay him Rwf 530,280,000 (~$360,000 USD) in compensation.

Contract Termination and Legal Dispute
In January 2026, FERWAFA announced that it had terminated Adel Amrouche’s contract as head coach of the Amavubi.
Two months later, FERWAFA President Shema Ngoga Fabrice confirmed that the coach had filed a complaint against the federation and that the matter was before the relevant FIFA authorities for a ruling.
Amrouche accused FERWAFA of unlawfully terminating his contract, arguing that the allegations against him did not constitute grounds for dismissal.

FIFA Ruling and Response from FERWAFA
FIFA ruled in favour of the Algerian-born coach and ordered FERWAFA to pay him the Rwf530.28 million sum.
The Rwanda Football Federation confirmed to IGIHE that it had received FIFA’s decision but requested detailed information on the grounds and reasoning behind the ruling. “FERWAFA’s General Secretariat confirms that it has received the FIFA decision communicated to our organisation concerning the employment dispute involving former head coach Adel Amrouche. FERWAFA confirms that it has already submitted a request to FIFA seeking the full written decision outlining the reasons and grounds on which the ruling was based. We will carefully review the documents once they are provided.”
Possible Appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)
The federation added that it was prepared to appeal the decision depending on the detailed explanations provided by FIFA. “While awaiting the receipt and review of the detailed reasons for the decision, FERWAFA intends to pursue all appropriate legal and sporting avenues available to it in order to protect the interests of football in Rwanda. If the explanations provided indicate that an appeal is warranted, FERWAFA will initiate the process of taking the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the timeframe prescribed by law.”
Track Record and Managerial Context
This is not the first time Adel Amrouche has won a legal dispute against a national football governing body over unlawful dismissal. In 2015, he won a landmark case against the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), which was ordered to pay him $1 million.
Amrouche was appointed head coach of the Amavubi in February 2025 on a two-year contract. During his tenure, he secured one victory, beating Zimbabwe in September 2025. Following his departure, 63-year-old English manager Stephen Constantine was appointed to coach the national team on a two-year contract starting in March 2026.
