The Kayonza District authorities have announced that the district’s bus station is being expanded due to an increase in the number of vehicles using the facility and the growing number of passengers, which has made its existing infrastructure inadequate.
Kayonza Bus Station was built more than 10 years ago. Residents who use the station say it has become too small compared with the volume of people and traffic it currently handles.
District Leadership Addresses Growing Traffic Demands
Kayonza District Acting Mayor Fred Hategekimana said the station had been in operation for about 14 years, but the number of residents and vehicles using it has increased significantly since it was built.
he said: “Our Kayonza bus station has been in existence for nearly 14 years. However, the number of residents and vehicles using it when it was first built is not the same as what we have today, and the number of users has also increased significantly.”
Infrastructure Upgrades Led by Jali Holdings
He added, “The station belongs to a company called Jali Holdings, and it has now started expanding it. The area on the far side will be extended, increasing the space available. Some facilities, including buildings and other structures, will also be renovated, while new facilities will be constructed to ensure that the station meets the requirements of a modern town.”
