Senior government officials from Rwanda and Uganda have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting trade and investment between the two countries, at the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) 2026 summit.
Summit Opening Focuses on Trade Facilitation and Development Sectors
Opening the summit, Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs said that to achieve this, the two countries must facilitate trade, promote agriculture, industry, construction and tourism. The two countries also agreed to address existing trade barriers and increase trade at the regional level.
The participants also reviewed the conclusions of the 11th JPC summit held in Kigali in 2023, and discussed new projects that can be implemented in partnership for sustainable development.
Reaffirmation of Brotherhood and Multi-Sector Cooperation
This UgandaRwandaJPC2026 summit reflects the brotherly relationship between the two countries and the political will to continue to develop it. It was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, the Uganda High Commission in Kigali and Rwandan authorities.
Both sides reaffirmed their cooperation in areas including security and defense, cross-border infrastructure, immigration, police cooperation and education, all aimed at promoting regional integration.
Alignment with Regional Integration Goals and Future Prospects
These activities are in line with the goals of the East African Community and the African Union Agenda 2063, which aims for sustainable development and closer cooperation between African countries.
The meeting is expected to yield results in strengthening the partnership between Rwanda and Uganda, and improving the lives of the people of both countries through joint development projects.
