The United States Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Todd Blanche, has confirmed that an attack at a hotel where President Donald Trump was dining with journalists was intended to kill senior U.S. officials, including the President.

Incident Happened at Washington Hilton
The incident reportedly took place on the night of April 25, 2025, at the Washington Hilton. Authorities said a 31-year-old man entered the venue armed with multiple firearms and other weapons before opening fire. One security officer was hit by a bullet, but the impact was stopped by a bulletproof vest. The suspect was immediately arrested at the scene.
Trump and Melania Were Present
At the time of the attack, President Donald Trump and Melania Trump were attending the dinner. In an interview with NBC News, Blanche said the attacker had intentionally targeted top government leaders.

Suspect to Appear in Court
The suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday and faces several charges, including attempted assassination of a federal security officer. President Trump also confirmed that he was among the intended targets and said the wounded officer survived because he was wearing protective armor.
Secret Service Gives Health Update
The United States Secret Service confirmed that the injured officer has been discharged from hospital and is now in stable condition.
