Kirehe District has once again emerged as the leading district in Rwanda in the performance of national examinations, recording outstanding results in both primary and Ordinary Level examinations for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Kirehe Records Outstanding Examination Results
Figures released by the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) show that Kirehe recorded a 99.88% pass rate in primary schools, while it achieved a 99.98% pass rate in the Ordinary Level examinations.
These results were confirmed by the Director General of NESA, Dr. Bernard Bahati, who explained that the national examinations for primary and Ordinary Level students were successfully conducted and marked during the 2025/2026 academic year.

More Than 400,000 Candidates Sit National Examinations
During the academic year, 277,593 candidates sat for the Primary Leaving Examinations, while 149,550 candidates sat for the Ordinary Level examinations.
Dr. Bahati said the overall national pass rate increased significantly, reaching 88.21%, compared with 75.6% recorded during the 2024/2025 academic year.
In primary schools, girls recorded a pass rate of 87.1%, while boys achieved 89.59%.
At Ordinary Level, 82.63% of girls passed, compared with 89.8% of boys.

Kirehe Maintains Its Strong Performance
Kirehe District is not new to performing well in national examinations.
During the 2024/2025 academic year, the district ranked first in the country in primary school examinations, recording a 97% pass rate. It also ranked first in the country in Ordinary Level examinations with a 91% pass rate.
In government examinations at Ordinary Level, Kirehe also ranked second with a 96% pass rate.

Continued Efforts Needed to Maintain Excellence
Kirehe’s performance in the 2025/2026 academic year is expected to encourage continued efforts to improve the quality of education across the district.
Maintaining its position at the top will require continued cooperation among teachers, students, parents and education authorities to strengthen learning outcomes and ensure that Kirehe continues to perform strongly in national examinations.
