After spending several days training with the club without signing a contract, Burundian winger Girumugisha Jean Claude has been officially unveiled as a new player for Libyan club Al Ahli Tripoli on a two-year deal.
Girumugisha, who previously played for Sudanese side Al Hilal SC, was one of the most sought-after players in this summer’s transfer window, attracting interest from several top clubs.
However, Al Ahli Tripoli moved ahead of the competition and even featured him in friendly matches, although the club delayed finalising his signing as negotiations with his former club had not yet been completed.
Girumugisha Signs Two-Year Deal
On Monday night, August 17, 2026, Girumugisha was officially unveiled as a new Al Ahli Tripoli player on a two-year contract, marking the end of his time at Al Hilal SC.
He said: “Every journey has its own story. Today, mine has come to an end after three years at this club. I would like to sincerely thank my former club, Al Hilal SC, its president, players, coaches and everyone who played a role, especially the fans.”
“Thank you for believing in me, standing by my side and making my time here a joyful and unforgettable experience. It was an honour to wear the Al Hilal SC badge.”

Transfer Fee Reportedly Reaches $850,000
Although the transfer fee has not been officially disclosed, reports indicate that Al Ahli Tripoli paid $850,000 (approximately Rwf 1.248 billion) for the player, beating competition from clubs including Tanzania’s Young Africans SC.
Girumugisha was named the best player in the BK Pro League for the 2025/26 season after helping his team win the Rwandan league title.
At Al Ahli Tripoli, he will join Rwandan defender Thierry Manzi, who also helped the Libyan club win the 2025/26 league title and the Libyan Super Cup.
