The leadership of the Muslim Community in Rwanda announced that on Eid Al‑Adha, being celebrated this Wednesday, 3,078 animals will be offered as sacrifices. These include 1,894 cows and 1,182 goats, to be sacrificed across all districts of the country over the four days of the ritual starting May 27.
Rwanda’s Mufti, Sheikh Musa Sindayigaya, explained that some of the animals are provided by partners and all will be distributed fairly across the country. He said: “The next step will be the slaughtering of these sacrifices. We have requested permission from various authorities and informed them of this plan. Everything is now ready, including proper coordination to ensure fair distribution across all 30 districts.”
Sharing and Community Spirit
Muslims emphasised that Eid Al‑Adha is not only about sacrifice but also about sharing. Jamal Sibomana noted, “Even our non‑Muslim relatives should share in the food God has given us. Whoever receives meat should share it with neighbours; it’s not for the individual alone. Those who sacrifice also give to their neighbours and the needy.”
Shadia Uwimana added, “Some of the poor among us don’t have food, so sharing reminds us of the noble legacy Prophet Ibrahim left us: obeying God’s commands is not a burden but a blessing.”
Hajj Pilgrimage
The Muslim Community in Rwanda also reported that this year, 72 Rwandan Muslims were able to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. Of these, 62 travelled through the community’s regular support program, while 10 were invited as special guests of the King of Saudi Arabia.
