The joint commission meeting on military cooperation between Rwanda and Russia has concluded, with both sides reviewing ways to strengthen their military ties through practical collaboration.
The multi-day meeting took place in Rwanda from Wednesday, May 20, to Friday, May 22, 2026.

Key Delegations

The sessions were co-chaired by Brigadier General Patrick Karuretwa, the Head of International Military Cooperation at the Rwanda Ministry of Defence, alongside Mr. Anatoly Punchuk, the Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation.
Meeting Outcomes
According to the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) command, the meeting “concluded successfully” on Friday at the RDF Headquarters in Kimihurura, Kigali.

“This meeting provided an opportunity to assess the current status of military cooperation and to explore avenues for further strengthening it through practical, mutually beneficial collaboration,” the RDF command stated.
Furthermore, both delegations expressed satisfaction with the smooth progress of the dialogue and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to advancing cooperation in all shared sectors for the benefit of both nations.
Future Partnership
At the launch of the event, the RDF command highlighted that “this annual meeting serves as a key platform to evaluate ongoing military cooperation between Rwanda and Russia, while also identifying new potential areas of partnership.”
