Rusizi District will host the 32nd Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi on April 25–26, 2026. The announcement followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Mayor Sindayiheba Phanuel and Rwanda Cycling Association, represented by its president Samson Ndayishimiye, to organize a commemorative cycling race.

Two-Day Race to Connect Districts and Communities
The event will feature a two-day race, beginning on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from Karongi District and concluding in Rusizi Town. The second day, Sunday, April 26, will see cyclists compete within Rusizi District, bringing together communities in remembrance and unity.

Inclusive Competition Across Multiple Categories
The race will include a wide range of participants, with categories for men and women, under-23 men and women, as well as youth riders, ensuring broad participation while honoring the memory of the victims of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi.
