Early Morning Incident
Gunshots rang out near the White House early Sunday morning, April 5, 2026, at around 4:00 a.m.
The United States Secret Service quickly opened an investigation after the incident.
Quick Security Response
Secret Service officers immediately searched the area around Lafayette Square, which sits next to the White House.
They worked to find the shooter and check if the suspect was hiding nearby.

Road Closures and Public Update
Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service spokesperson, shared an update on X.
He said officers closed roads around the White House right after the incident. Authorities have now reopened those roads to the public.
No Injuries Reported
Officials confirmed that no one was in the park after they secured the area.
They also reported no injuries. Investigators continue to check whether a vehicle was involved and to identify the suspect.
President Trump’s Status
Donald Trump was in Washington, D.C. at the time of the incident.
The Secret Service said White House operations continued as usual, but security increased.
Because of the situation, President Trump stayed in the capital instead of traveling to Mar a Lago in Florida, where he usually spends weekends.
