Rwanda Hosts Defence Attachés to Discuss Regional Security and Peacekeeping
Discussion on Security and Peacekeeping
On Thursday, March 26, 2026, the Ministry of Defence and the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) hosted defence attachés from several countries and international organizations. The meeting focused on Rwandan and regional security. It also addressed the RDF’s role in United Nations peacekeeping operations and military cooperation between countries. The event took place at the Defence Headquarters in Kimihurura.

International Representation
A total of 36 representatives attended the meeting. They came from Angola, Brazil, Botswana, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Ghana, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Luxembourg, Morocco, Namibia, Poland, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Russia, Senegal, Sudan, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda, Netherlands, United Kingdom, United States, and Zimbabwe.
In addition, representatives from the European Union and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) were present.
Purpose of the Discussions
Brigadier General Patrick Karuretwa, Director General for International Military Cooperation at the Ministry of Defence, explained the purpose of the discussions. He said the meetings provide a unique platform for open dialogue on security issues. This includes both regional and global challenges.
He added:
“This platform is very important because global security challenges are rising. Conflicts are increasing worldwide. International cooperation faces pressure, and international law is tested. Therefore, constructive collaboration is essential for everyone’s benefit.”

Appreciation from International Delegates
The Head of the Military Representative Delegation, Brigadier General Mohamed Mirghani Yousif Mohamed from Sudan, thanked Rwanda for hosting the event. He praised Rwanda for its peaceful and secure environment.
He said:
“We appreciate the time you took to explain the current security situation, both internally and externally. Rwanda is a country marked by security, and this is something to be proud of.”
Rwanda’s Role in Peace and Stability
The discussions highlighted Rwanda’s commitment to regional security and international peacekeeping. In addition, the RDF continues to strengthen partnerships, share expertise, and contribute to global peacekeeping missions. These efforts show Rwanda’s dedication to peace and stability in the region.
