The National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) has announced that 94.33% of students passed the national secondary school leaving examinations for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The results were announced during a ceremony held on September 11, 2026, to officially release the national secondary school leaving examination results.
More Than 108,000 Students Sat the Examinations
The Director General of NESA, Dr. Bahati Bernard, said a total of 108,732 students registered for the examinations, including 55.05% girls and 44.95% boys.
Dr. Bahati explained that 108,406 students sat for the national examinations. Of these, 102,261 passed, representing 94.33%.
Among boys, 95.94% passed, while 93.02% of girls passed.
Performance Improves Compared with Previous Year
NESA indicated that this year’s performance was higher than that of the previous year, when 89.1% of the 106,078 students who sat for the examinations passed.
NESA explained that 5.63% of the students who took the national secondary school leaving examinations failed after scoring below 50%, while 48.98% scored 70% or above.

General Education Performance
Among students who took General Education examinations, 93.87% of the 36,938 students passed the science subjects.
In humanities, 95.86% of students passed, while 93.61% passed the languages.
TVET Students Record 94.55% Pass Rate
In Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools, 42,793 students sat for the examinations. Of these, 94.55% passed, while 5.36% failed.
Manzi Nshuti Kabanda Brave Tops National Results
Manzi Nshuti Kabanda Brave, who studied Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology (MCB) at Petit Seminaire Saint Aloys in Rusizi District, emerged as the top-performing student in the 2025/2026 national secondary school leaving examinations.
Manzi scored 98.40%.
He was followed by Umwali Deborah, who studied History, Literature and Geography (HLP) at Cornerstone Leadership Academy in Rwamagana, with a score of 97.52%.
Irakoze Pacome, who studied Social Studies at TTC Rubengera in Karongi District, ranked third with 95.93%.
Umukundwa Herniette, who studied professional accounting at ACEJ Karama in Muhanga District, ranked fourth with 95.23%.
Umunyurwa Karangwa Naomie, who studied Fine Arts and Crafts at Ecole d’Art de Nyundo in Rubavu District, completed the top five with a score of 94.74%.
