The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, DCG Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza, on Thursday, July 31, attended the 23rd Royal Eswatini Police Day celebrations at the Police Academy in Matsapha. She was accompanied by CP William Kayitare, Commandant of the Counter Terrorism Training Centre (CTTC) Mayange.
King Mswati III Commends Police Service
The ceremony was presided over by His Majesty King Mswati III, who reaffirmed the critical role of the Royal Eswatini Police Service in safeguarding peace, upholding the rule of law, and supporting national development. His Majesty described Police Day as an important occasion to recognise the dedication, professionalism, and sacrifices of the men and women of the Royal Eswatini Police Service.
This year’s theme, “Policing with Agape Love,” underscored the responsibility of the Police Service to protect lives and property while serving the nation with compassion, professionalism, and loyalty to the Crown. His Majesty commended officers for their courage and reminded them that the police uniform represents integrity, discipline, and selfless service.
Call to Address Emerging Security Threats
He further urged the Police Service to remain responsive to emerging security threats, including cybercrime, organised crime, drug trafficking, gender-based violence, and crimes against vulnerable members of society. He encouraged innovation, intelligence-led policing, and stronger partnerships with communities and international counterparts.
His Majesty also applauded the humanitarian initiatives of the Police Service, such as assisting vulnerable families with housing, food, and clothing, describing these acts as a true reflection of Buntfu. He emphasized that security is a shared responsibility, encouraging every citizen to work closely with the Police Service in preventing crime and promoting harmony.
Rwanda and Eswatini Strengthen Police Cooperation
The event was attended by regional and international police leaders, reflecting strong cooperation among law enforcement agencies. Rwanda’s participation highlighted the longstanding collaboration between the Rwanda National Police and the Royal Eswatini Police Service, particularly in areas of training, counter-terrorism, and community policing.
King Mswati III concluded by urging the Police Service to serve every citizen without fear or favour, uphold the Constitution and laws of the Kingdom, and always remember that public trust is earned through professional and ethical conduct.
Longstanding Partnership in Training and Security
The visit by Rwanda National Police officials to Eswatini further strengthens the bond between the two institutions, showcasing their shared commitment to peace, security, and development across the region.
For years, Rwanda National Police and the Royal Eswatini Police Service have exchanged policing programmes, including training.
