President Paul Kagame held talks with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman during his official visit to the country, with the two leaders reaffirming the longstanding relations between Rwanda and Oman and discussing opportunities to expand cooperation in key sectors.
President Kagame arrived in Salalah, Oman, on September 7, 2026, beginning a two-day official visit. He was received by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, marking an important moment in the growing relationship between the two countries.
Rwanda and Oman Explore New Areas of Cooperation
During their meeting, the two leaders discussed ways to build on the existing relationship between Rwanda and Oman. According to a message posted by the Office of the President, Village Urugwiro, the discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation in areas including energy, transport and food security.
The two leaders reaffirmed what was described as the historic relationship between the two countries and expressed interest in using President Kagame’s visit to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

A First Official Presidential Visit
President Kagame’s visit is significant because it is the first official visit by a President of Rwanda to Oman.
The visit is aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations while identifying new areas where the two countries can work together. Agreements and memoranda of understanding in different sectors are also expected to be signed during the visit.
President Kagame to Visit the Museum of the Frankincense Land
During the second day of his visit, President Kagame is expected to visit the Museum of the Frankincense Land, located within the Al Baleed Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The museum provides visitors with an understanding of Oman’s history and cultural heritage. Its Heritage Hall focuses on the archaeological history of the region and the importance of the frankincense trade to the social and economic development of the Dhofar region.
The museum’s Maritime Hall highlights Oman’s long history of maritime travel and trade and the role these activities played in connecting the country with other parts of the world.

Visit to Razat Royal Farm
President Kagame is also expected to visit the Razat Royal Farm, a major agricultural centre in the Dhofar Governorate covering more than 404 hectares.
The farm is involved in agricultural activities and also serves purposes related to agricultural tourism and education. The visit provides an opportunity to explore areas of potential cooperation between Rwanda and Oman in agriculture and food security.
Sultan Haitham to Host President Kagame
As part of the official visit, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq will host President Kagame and his delegation for a dinner.
The engagement is expected to provide another opportunity for the two sides to discuss bilateral relations and areas where Rwanda and Oman can deepen cooperation.
