On Friday, October 30, 42 pupils from Inzozi Academy Nursery School in Busanza, Kicukiro District, accompanied by their teachers, visited the Rwanda National Police Headquarters in Kacyiru for an educational tour.
The visit aimed to equip the children with basic knowledge of fire prevention and firefighting, road safety, and the role of police dogs in security operations.
Pupils Learn About Police Departments and Their Responsibilities
During the visit, the pupils toured the Fire and Rescue Brigade, the Canine Brigade, and the Traffic and Road Safety Department.

They were introduced to the responsibilities of each department and the equipment used to maintain public security and protect people facing emergencies, including road accidents, fires, and other incidents requiring urgent intervention.
The children also learned how police dogs help detect narcotic drugs and explosives that could threaten public safety. They further participated in practical demonstrations related to some of the activities.
Police Emphasize the Importance of Public Safety Education
The spokesperson for the Traffic and Road Safety Department, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Emmanuel Kayigi, said educational visits to Rwanda National Police provide pupils with valuable knowledge beyond what they learn in classrooms.

He explained that teaching children about road signs, traffic signals, fire prevention, firefighting, and other police responsibilities helps them develop safety awareness from an early age.
SSP Kayigi said: “Providing students with this type of knowledge related to public safety, such as obeying road signs and traffic signals, preventing and fighting fires, and understanding other police activities in maintaining security, helps them grow up with this understanding. It enables them to avoid road accidents, prevent situations that may cause fires and their consequences, and it does not stop there because they also pass this knowledge on to their fellow students, family members, and neighbours,”
Police Thank School for Promoting Safety Awareness
SSP Kayigi thanked the school’s administration for choosing Rwanda National Police as a destination for the educational visit, noting that the opportunity helps children understand the institution’s responsibilities and how it carries out its duties to protect the public.

Teachers Highlight the Educational Value of Study Visits
Jemima Uwayo Munezero, one of the teachers who accompanied the pupils, said the visit complements classroom learning by giving children an opportunity to experience and understand what they are taught in a practical environment.
She expressed appreciation to Rwanda National Police for welcoming the pupils and providing them with an opportunity to learn about its activities: “Taking children on educational visits allows them to see with their own eyes what they have learned in class, helping them better understand the world beyond school and the activities carried out there in a practical and engaging way. Visiting a place such as the Police Headquarters creates memorable experiences that will remain with them throughout their lives, and what they learn here can motivate them to pursue and achieve their dreams,”
