President Paul Kagame and his Beninese counterpart, Romuald Wadagni, took a walk through the streets of Kigali on Wednesday evening, September 16, 2026.
The two Heads of State walked along the area known as the Nyarutarama Green Carpet, one of the designated spaces in Kigali intended to provide residents with easy and safe access to facilities for physical exercise.
Kagame and Wadagni Walk Along Nyarutarama Green Carpet
Village Urugwiro said, “This evening in Kigali, President Kagame and the President of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, walked along the Nyarutarama Green Carpet, one of the areas designated to enable residents to easily and safely engage in walking, running and other outdoor sports activities.”
The exercise session came after President Kagame received President Wadagni at Village Urugwiro, where they held talks focused on strengthening relations and cooperation between Rwanda and Benin.

Wadagni on Two-Day Working Visit to Rwanda
President Wadagni is in Rwanda for a two-day working visit aimed at further expanding cooperation between the two countries.
Rwanda and Benin already cooperate in various areas, including trade and investment, technology, agriculture, urban planning, public service reforms and security.
In 2023, during President Kagame’s visit to Benin, the two countries signed 10 cooperation agreements, including an agreement aimed at eliminating double taxation.

Wadagni Recently Assumed Office as Benin’s President
President Wadagni’s visit to Rwanda comes just months after he assumed office in Benin.
The 50-year-old was elected President on April 12, 2026, securing more than 94% of the vote. He was sworn in on May 24, 2026, succeeding Patrice Talon, who had completed the two terms permitted under the Constitution.
President Wadagni began his seven-year term after serving as Benin’s Minister of Economy and Finance for 10 years.

Wadagni Previously Visited Rwanda
This is not President Wadagni’s first visit to Rwanda.
In September 2023, while still serving as Minister of Economy and Finance, he visited Rwanda as a special envoy of President Patrice Talon.
