Details of the Arrest and Investigation
“On May 16, 2026, RIB arrested Uworizagwira Florien, popularly known as Yampano. He is suspected of various offenses including assault and battery, issuing threats, drug consumption, among others,” Dr. Murangira stated.
According to available information, the alleged crimes occurred at different times. Authorities say that after learning he was under investigation, Yampano reportedly went into hiding while being sought by investigators before eventually surrendering to RIB officials. The musician is currently being held at the RIB Kicukiro Station as investigations continue and his case file is prepared for submission to prosecutors.
Allegations of Abuse Against Partner
Reports have also emerged alleging repeated abuse against his partner, known publicly as “Vava.” Sources claim the incidents escalated after an alleged violent confrontation in which the singer reportedly struck her with a vehicle. In a recent statement, Vava accused Yampano of physically assaulting her, biting her nose, and threatening to kill her if she spoke publicly about the abuse.

She said their relationship took a more dangerous turn on March 24, 2026, while the two were driving together to a sauna. According to her account, she asked Yampano to stop using his phone while driving, a request that allegedly angered the singer and led him to order her out of the vehicle. “He stopped in the middle of the road, not even at a proper stopping point, and forced me out of the car. I took a motorcycle taxi, and as soon as I put on my helmet and looked back, I saw him following us. At first, I thought he wanted me to return to the car, but instead he accelerated and hit us,” she said.
