President Paul Kagame speaking about global cooperation at the World Policy Conference

President Paul Kagame has reiterated that Africa seeks self-reliance while engaging with the world in a productive and mutually beneficial way. During the World Policy Conference (WPC) in France, he emphasized that the continent must not face discrimination or unnecessary competition.

The conference brings together global leaders and experts to discuss governance and development across various regions. Consequently, President Kagame used this platform to advocate for a global system based on mutual respect.

He stated that Africa’s aspiration remains straightforward: to prioritize its own interests while building meaningful partnerships with international stakeholders.

Addressing global fragmentation and division

President Kagame warned that the growing fragmentation in the world does not offer sustainable solutions for development. He noted that increased division risks fueling conflict and polarization rather than fostering progress. “The world is becoming increasingly divided, but that does not bring solutions. It can instead lead to confrontation and fragmentation,” he said.

He stressed that development should serve as a shared benefit where all parties gain from cooperation. In his view, collaboration is essential for achieving stability and maintaining a consistent global direction for future planning.

Coexisting despite differences for collective progress

The Rwandan leader further noted that the real challenge lies in learning how to coexist despite inherent global differences. He suggested that the world should focus on progressing together rather than attempting to create a perfect world free of all inequality.

“The issue is not building a perfect world without disparities, but whether we can live together, despite our differences, and move forward collectively,” he said. By focusing on collective movement, nations can overcome the barriers created by competition with clear winners and losers.

A consistent voice in global policymaking

President Kagame is attending the World Policy Conference for the 18th time, demonstrating Rwanda’s commitment to international dialogue. He joins policymakers and experts from around the world to exchange ideas on strengthening cooperation.

His message emphasizes that respect among nations forms the foundation of any successful global strategy. As the world navigates complex geopolitical shifts, Kagame’s call for self-reliance and partnership offers a roadmap for Africa’s role in the global arena.

It’s interesting how the call for self-reliance can impact local wedding vendors and small businesses. Have you seen any examples of this in action?
