President Paul Kagame, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), has appointed new senior leaders in the Rwanda Air Force as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership, operational effectiveness, and strategic oversight within the military institution.
Brig Gen Godfrey Gasana Given Expanded Responsibilities
Brigadier General Godfrey Gasana, the President’s personal pilot, has been assigned additional responsibilities while retaining his current role. He will now also serve as an Advisor to the Minister of Defence on matters related to the operations and overall performance of the Air Force.
Advisory Role to Enhance Strategic Oversight
In his new advisory position, Brig Gen Gasana is expected to provide expert guidance on aviation operations, strategic planning, and the efficient management of Air Force activities. His extensive professional experience in aviation and military operations is anticipated to contribute significantly to strengthening Air Force performance and decision-making.

Col Dan Gatsinzi Appointed Deputy Chief of Air Staff
In the same round of appointments, Colonel Dan Gatsinzi has been named Deputy Chief of Air Staff in charge of Operations. In this role, he will oversee the planning and execution of Air Force operations, ensuring operational readiness, effective coordination of missions, and optimal use of air assets.

These leadership changes form part of continuous adjustments within the Rwanda Defence Force aimed at reinforcing command structures, enhancing professionalism, and supporting the modernization of the Air Force.
