Homes and Communities Restored
The mission initially focuses on reconstructing homes for residents affected by the storm. By repairing and rehabilitating these structures, RDF and JDF personnel aim to improve living conditions for families impacted by the disaster and restore a sense of normalcy to the community.
Strengthening Bilateral Military Cooperation
This collaboration highlights the strong partnership between the Rwandan and Jamaican armed forces. It demonstrates how military expertise can support national recovery efforts and contribute to humanitarian assistance programs led by the Government of Jamaica.
Humanitarian Values and Long-Term Goals
Colonel Moses Kayigamba, Head of the RDF engineering contingent, emphasized that the mission goes beyond rebuilding infrastructure. “This operation reflects solidarity and partnership with the people of Jamaica, while also building long-term capacity in disaster preparedness and response,” he said. The RDF team works closely with local authorities to ensure that their efforts align with Jamaica’s national disaster recovery strategy.
Rwanda’s Commitment to Global Humanitarian Assistance
Rwanda has deployed 100 soldiers to support this reconstruction and disaster-response mission. The specialized engineering team underscores the country’s commitment to international solidarity, cooperation, and humanitarian assistance in mitigating the effects of natural disasters on vulnerable communities.
