Rwanda’s national men’s volleyball team has reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 African Championship after defeating The Gambia 3-0 in the Round of 16.
The match was played on Saturday, September 19, at the El Menzah Sport Palace in Tunis, Tunisia, where the continental tournament is being held.
Rwanda Dominate the First Set
Rwanda started the match strongly, taking control of the opening set and defeating The Gambia 25-18.
The Rwandan players maintained pressure throughout the set and established an early advantage in the knockout match.
The Gambia Push Rwanda in Second Set
The second set was more competitive, with the two teams exchanging points as The Gambia attempted to stay in the contest.
Rwanda, however, remained composed and eventually won the set 25-21, moving one set away from securing their place in the quarter-finals.

Rwanda Complete Straight-Sets Victory
Rwanda continued their strong performance in the third set, winning 25-18to complete a 3-0 victory.
The match lasted one hour and 11 minutes, with Rwanda maintaining control through the decisive stages.
Dusenge and Mutabazi Lead Rwanda
Captain Wiclif Dusenge was Rwanda’s leading scorer, finishing the match with 22 points.
He was followed by Yves Mutabazi, who contributed 14 points as Rwanda secured their place in the last eight.

Rwanda Prepare to Face Tunisia
Rwanda reached the Round of 16 after finishing second in Group D with six points from a possible nine.
The victory over The Gambia now sets up a quarter-final meeting with Tunisia on Monday, September 21, 2026.
Rwanda will need another strong performance to advance to the semi-finals of the African Championship.
